Cedar Shingles

Cedar shingles are a great environmentally friendly alternative to traditional roofing shingle materials but can also be used for wall claddings. Not only do wooden shingles give your home a unique traditional look, but they have a range of advantages too.

Advantages of using cedar shingles

Cedar shingles have one of the lowest carbon footprints of any building products, because they are supplied from sustainable sources, and are a bi product – created from the material that remains once log have been processed at mills. This means that very little extra energy is used to create cedar roof shingles.

Cedar shingles also have a higher R value than other roofing materials, and up to double that of traditional bitumen. This means that wooden shingles are naturally a better insulator than other roofing materials, keeping buildings warmer in the winter and cooler in summer.

Cedar wood has a life span of around 50 years or more and is also naturally resilient to decay and insect attack due to naturally occurring oils within the wood.

Here at Roofing Superstore we have a selection of Western Red Cedar Shingles and Eastern White Cedar Shingles. Eastern white cedar shingles will weather to a silver grey, and can be painted or stained after 5-7 months of drying after installation, whereas red cedar shingles will weather to a natural reddish brown to pale yellow shade.
