Description

If you're looking for a reliable and effective primer for your bitumen paints and roof coatings, this Black Jack Bitumen Primer is the perfect solution. This thin, black primer has been designed to provide a key surface for your coatings to adhere to. It can also be used as a primer for Black Jack flashing tape.

With coverage of 4-6m² per litre, depending on the porosity of the substrate, or 11m² per litre on non-porous surfaces, this Black Jack primer is efficient and easy to apply. Simply brush or spray it onto the surface, being careful to avoid ponding or pooling when using a spray. It should be well scrubbed in by a brush, ensuring a thin, even coverage. For fibre cement or rag felt, apply generously to saturate the surface.

Proper surface preparation is essential for optimal adhesion and longevity of the coating. Ensure that all surfaces are stable, sound and thoroughly dry and clean. Metal surfaces should be wire brushed to remove rust while new galvanised surfaces should be treated with a proprietary etch primer or roughened with a wire brush. For long-term protection, you should consider using a rust-inhibitive product, like zinc phosphate or red lead. Tar-based paint systems and loose or blistered paint should be removed.

When storing this Black Jack bitumen primer, you should take necessary precautions, as it contains flammable solvents. Keep it in its original container in cool, dry conditions and away from sources of ignition. It has a storage life of 24 months when tightly sealed and undamaged.

Please note:

  • Before applying, surfaces should be repaired, dry and clean, as well as free from loose debris, dirt, grease and rust. A stiff-bristled brush should remove algae and fungus growth, then areas can be treated with Everbuild Fungicidal Wash to kill spores and prevent regrowth. Porous surfaces can be primed with a coat of Black Jack Bitumen Primer.
  • After 24 hours, check all bonding for full adhesion. Make sure to check all laps and if in doubt, press home or roll any felt that lacks adhesion.
  • Tools can be cleaned with paraffin or white spirit and spills should be wiped clean before the felt adhesive is set.
  • Do not use in places where subsequent solvent contact is likely. Avoid inhalation of vapours in tight spaces. Nail down the first felt layer on timber roof structures to meet BS 8217-1994.
  • Black Jack Roof Felt Adhesive contains a flammable solvent. Normal fire precautions must be taken during storage and use. Store in the original container in cool dry conditions and keep clear of sources of ignition.
