Crafted with a slight camber and dimensional variation, each slate possesses its own distinctive charm when laid.
For pitches below 40°, it is possible to hang the slates, depending on specific conditions. However, if you are unsure, seeking advice from our expert Roofing Superstore team is recommended. When the pitch exceeds 40°, it is crucial to secure all slates using two 38mm x 3.35mm aluminium nails (40mm x 4mm for 24 x 8 slates), fastening them firmly into the batten. The nail holes, approximately 5mm in diameter, are positioned around 50mm below the slate heads and 50mm-100mm inward from the side edges.
For pitches ranging from 20° to 24.5°, the recommended coverage is 12.3 tiles per metre squared with a minimum headlap of 102mm. For pitches of 25° and above, coverage of 11.5 tiles per metre squared is advised, with a minimum headlap of 75mm. Using a batten size of 38mm x 25mm is recommended for spans up to 450mm or 50mm x 25mm for spans ranging from 450mm to 600mm.
