Question:
Is this skylight fire resistant?
Answer:
Hi Petru
Fire Ratings
Building Regulations Approved Document B (2019 edition, amended 2020) sets out the rules for fire safety of buildings,
which can be met by achieving specific fire ratings to European (BS EN 13501) test standards.
Glass is classified as Class A by CWFT (Classified Without Further Test) to European Standard EN13501 part 1 with no
reaction-to-fire testing required. (See European Commission Decision 96/603/EC.)
Building Regulations Approved Document B deems that ‘when used in rooflights, unwired glass a minimum of 4mm thick
can be regarded as having a BROOF(t4) classification’ to European Standard EN13501 Part 5. (See Approved Document B1
paragraph 14.8 and Approved Document B2 paragraph 12.8.) These classifications mean there is no restriction on where
glass rooflights can be used on roofs of buildings in England.
Question:
Hi is the glazing of the Mardome unvented fixed flat roof light 1000 x 1500mm or does that include the frame already? Ie what size would the structural opening be? Would the roof be a good choice for a Protan flat roof?
Answer:
The dimensions on this refer to the roof opening needed, so you would make the roof opening 1500mm x 1000mm. As long as you can dress the roof covering up the upstand to seal it in it will be fine.
