Product Description

Western Red Cedar Shingles & Shakes from Marley are a truly renewable and sustainable roofing and cladding material; with one of the lowest carbon footprints of any widely used building product. They are light to transport yet durable and offer a high degree of thermal insulation.

Shingles and Shakes have been used for a wide range of structures from simple garden gazebos to domestic dwellings to major theme parks. Shingles and Shakes perform the same functions but are manufactured in different ways. A Shingle is produced by sawing a block of wood on both sides, giving a relatively smooth face and back. A Shake is hand split from a block of cedar along the natural grain of the wood and then resawn to produce one smooth surface.

Can be used for ridges & hips. The premium-grade of shingles for roofs and sidewalls.

Questions & Answers

Question:

I have a ridge 3.8m long. I think the pitch is 24. How many will I need?

Answer:

30 ridges should cover that for you, with each one offer 125mm cover.

Question:

How are these fitted ? All one direction or working in from each gable and meet in the middle ?

Answer:

Best to fix all in one direction running along the roof.

Question:

Hi, I have a horizontal ridge of 1.9m (Playhouse). The roof pitch is 22.5 degrees. Can you advise if these ridge caps are suitable and how many i would need. Regards Brendan

Answer:

These would be suitable and you would need approx 15-16 to cover that length after overlapping them.

Question:

Any nails will be needed for 10.5 of ridge, 84 ridge pieces ?

Answer:

Yes you would need nails for fixing, we advise the below for Cedar Shingles.

https://www.roofingsuperstore.co.uk/product/silicone-bronze-annular-ring-nails-31mm-x-1-8mm-1kg.html

Question:

I have a ridge of 10.5 m, and 20 degree angle. Based on each length at 450 mm, i need 23 by my calculations but on your q and a it stated for 5 m length you need 54 ridge pieces, now I’m confused. Can you help ?

Answer:

They are 450mm long but once overlapped at that pitch they will only over 94mm each so you would need approx 111 ridges.

Question:

I have a ridge length of 5m how many ridges would I need?

Answer:

If the pitch is over 22° you will need 40 ridges.

If the pitch is below 22° you will need 54 ridges.

Question:

What angle are these please?

Answer:

These are set at a 125° angle.

I ordered 8 of the cedar shingle ridge caps. I actually only needed 8 as it was just for an arbour roof I have built. They were delivered pretty quickly so no issues there. However I think the quality of them was pretty poor with several being broken or cracked. I had enough to do what I needed so didn't bother complaining but would be hesitant about ordering again due to the poor quality of some of the product.

Not as good as it looks on site

Nowhere near as good looking as the picture. They taper and are split up to the last 70mm - 80mm so cant be used as a 'normal' ridge layout.
