Learn moreTyvek FireCurb Breather Membrane from DuPont provides high performance, flame retardant building protection. It works by limiting the propagation of flames so that they stop, die down and go out. The new patented technology includes all of the well-known properties of Tyvek, adding flame retardancy for even more comprehensive protection of walls.
With greater safety during and following application, this breather membrane is self-extinguishing when ignited and includes a halogen-free flame retardant coating.
Question:
Hi, I’m looking at using DuPont Tyvek FireCurb on a timber garden room that will be close to a boundary, and I’d like to confirm whether it helps meet UK Building Regulations requirements relating to fire spread. Could you please confirm: Whether Tyvek FireCurb is suitable for use in external wall constructions within 1 metre of a boundary Whether it contributes toward compliance with Approved Document B Whether it has been tested as part of any wall systems with 30-minute fire resistance ratings If you have any certification or guidance documents that would support Building Control approval for this type of application Many thanks.
Answer:
Tyvek FireCurb is indeed suitable for external wall constructions and is designed to improve the fire performance of such systems, including on timber frame constructions. It has a Euroclass B-s1,d0 reaction-to-fire rating, which helps limit flame spread and self-extinguishes if ignited. This rating supports compliance with Approved Document B guidance, where membranes should typically achieve at least Class B-s3,d0. However, while Tyvek FireCurb is fire retardant, it's important to understand that it is not a fire-resisting material on its own. It cannot alone ensure compliance for walls within 1 metre of a boundary or provide a 30-minute fire resistance by itself. Compliance with fire safety regulations, such as those outlined in Approved Document B, depends on the entire wall construction, including cladding, structure, insulation, and internal linings. If you're considering using it as part of a compliant wall build-up, note that Building Control approval will depend on the complete tested or designed wall system, not the membrane alone. For specification, we offer a BBA Agrément Certificate and technical data sheets that are available to support its use in construction.
