Warm Roofs
Warm roofs are so called because insulation is installed along the slope and between the rafters of the roof. This keeps the whole roof structure warm. You can install various types of insulation on a warm roof, including PIR boards, insulated plasterboard, multifoil, and natural insulation.
Suitable for both pitched and flat roofs, warm roofs are most commonly found on properties with loft conversions, or where the loft is being used as a habitable space, for example, as a bedroom or office. This is so that the indoor temperature can be regulated just as it would throughout the rest of the house, keeping it cool in summer and warm in winter. In turn, your carbon footprint and energy bills are reduced, as you’ll rely less on central heating and cooling systems.
Warm roofs also require the correct ventilation. Although not on the same scale as a cold roof, it is still important to install a breather membrane so that moisture can escape and not pass through. This will keep your roof well-maintained and reduce the risk of damp, mould, and rot.
