Applicable for both built-up felt and mastic asphalt roofing, this Aluminium Roof Trim should be fitted with cadmium or galvanised screws or nails with no more than 12"/300mm centres, with the ends of each length securely fixed. With the recommendation of no less than eight fixings per length, a 3mm gap left between each length to permit expansion, and the fixing leg should be primed.
With mastic asphalt roofing installations, this aluminium roof trim can be positioned into place and fixed before laying the asphalt. On concrete roofs, the sheathing felt ends at the bottom of the kerb. On timber kerbs, the expanded metal lathing and sheathing felt should be secured to the inner edge of the fixing arm. Following this, the mastic asphalt skirtings are placed with the upper edge turned into the hood of this roof trim.
The initial layer of built-up felt roofing should be placed over the kerb with the aluminium trim fixed into place. The final layer of felt is laid in a similar approach over the trim, with the top edge turned into the hood, eliminating the outer edge of the felt lifting's top layer.
