Product Description

Eco Systems have introduced a new 100% recycled roofing slate to the UK market which is set to revolutionise the entire roofing industry. Working in conjunction with the direct manufacturer NewTech, we offer a state of the art formulation which provides a strong, pliable and attractive roofing option for your home or building application.

100% Recycled self-bonding, roof slate/shingle is available in two colours; Grey and Old World Red, the slate has the unique flexibility to be used for valleys and ridges. There is no need for custom-made accessories because every slate can be cut and set to any angle or size you need.

A unique advantage that distinguishes these slates from any other synthetic slate on the market is that they are self-bonding, this allows them to bond together once installed creating one membrane. The benefit of this process gives you a stronger, more pliable solid membrane that leaves you with a roof that is wind and weather resistant even at low pitches and better insulated.

The installation process is very simple as the slates are fitted straight onto plyboard or oriented strand board (OSB), no roof battens are required, a standard breathable underlay and then nailed down in two places using the relevant size copper, stainless steel or hot-dipped galvanised nails; it’s that easy!

Over a period of time, the slate will self-bond together forming a solid membrane on your roof. This process has no specific timescale as it relies on sunlight, and therefore bonds faster during the summer months than the winter months. This process makes the installation much more cost-effective as it takes less than half the time to install than traditional slate, all without any damage or breakages and problems associated with real slate.

Questions & Answers

Question:

Is it light enough to put on a summer house roof?

Answer:

Yes this would be a suitable lightweight option.

Question:

I have a single pitched roof in a reasonably protected location. The pitch is a shade over 11 degrees. The current roof is slate. We are getting increasing water ingress at the slope top where it adjoins a wall. The flashing has been replaced but the problem still exists. A roofer has suggested that as the roof is at such a shallow pitch, capillary action of the water is causing the water ingress. Would the ECO slate roof tile prevent this capillary action? The house is listed hence is the appearance of the tile the same as slate?

Answer:

Eco slate can be installed to a low pitch but does need to go down onto a fully boarded roof, to check it meets planning approval in your area you can always orders a sample from the link below.

Question:

Which nail would you recommend, for the eco tile product, for a nailgun? I have De Walt first and second fix guns?

Answer:

We don't recommend the use of nail guns.

Hot galvanised or stainless steel nails only.

Question:

Do you overlap these tiles ?

Answer:

Yes these are still installed with an overlap. Coverage rates depend on pitch.

More than 20° pitch = 17 slates per m2

15 - 20° pitch = 19 slates per m2

10 -15° pitch = 22 per m2

Question:

Good morning, I would like a sample of your ECO Slate tile in grey please. Would this product be suitable for a detached house facing the sea on the south coast (West Sussex) ?

Answer:

The Eco Slate would definitely be suitable for your area as it is man made it does not suffer the same wear as other materials in coastal locations.

Samples need to be ordered for these from the link below.

Question:

I have 7m2 of tiling area how much will this cost?

Answer:

The coverage depends on roof pitch, please see below as a guide.

15 - 20° pitch = 19 slates per m2
10 -15° pitch = 22 per m2

I was a bit dubious to start with but having put them up on a new timber frame porch, they look great. I tacked them onto 18mm OSB with a roof membrane and it was very easy to get good coverage. Note: the first row is a double row so make sure you account for that in your calculations!

When I purchased this item, the roof tile i received was not the one pictured on the website or in the video review. Apparently it was an old Chinese manufactured one. It’s also sold as Grey, it was not grey. The picture attached was a sample I got locally, which was identical to the one advertised and in the video review, tile on the left is what I received. Nice to see they have now changed the picture on the website. Return was handled reasonably well.
