With a clear, green tinted, blown virgin polythene structure, Novia 500 VCL is an affordable option. It is for use as a vapour control layer in timber frame construction walls or situations where controlling the passage of water vapour is necessary. Totally compliant with CPR (Construction Products Regulation) standards, this product is CE Approved to EN 13984:2013.
Vapour Control Layers (VCLs) are utilised to regulate the movement of naturally occurring moisture vapour within the building envelope. This vapour commonly arises from general building activities. The VCL membranes from Novia are developed for compatibility with various construction designs and offer you specific solutions for all your applications and needs.
As well as a vapour control layer, this product makes an effective barrier against air leakage and reduces energy losses caused by unwanted convection flows. It is advised you employ Novia compatible butyl and foil sealing tapes for full integrity of the barrier throughout the product's lifespan. For an airtight and vapour-resistant system, Novia 500 VCL should be used alongside Novia breather membranes.
To securely seal Novia VCL products, use Novia double-sided butyl tape with an overlap of 75mm to 100mm (or larger for specific products). Then apply a lap-seal using a Novia foil tape. The tape's width determines the strength of the seal, so choose accordingly based on your application and budget. For improved airtightness, pre-apply butyl tape to studs or timbers at fixing points. This enhances the seal when using staples or similar fasteners on the membrane or final wall covering, like plasterboard.
