Firstly, the Tufspot mixing tray provides a surface that is much thicker than plastic sheeting, so is much less likely to be damaged accidentally by the shovel or spade that is used to mix the aggregate. Secondly, the mixing tray features a small lip and vertical wall around the edge, which helps to prevent the material from spreading anywhere outside of the mixing tray. In comparison, when working with sheeting or directly onto the ground, the sand and cement often ends up spreading relatively far away from the initial area of mixing.
