Question:
My contractor has retro-fitted tile vents to a house Existing roof tiles are laid over breathable membrane but has left the felt intact Is this good practice or should the felt be cut to achieve correct air flow
Answer:
In general, when installing tile vents such as the Ubbink UB62 Double Pantile In-line Roof Tile Vent, it's usually recommended to cut the underlay or felt to allow for proper airflow. This helps to maximise the vent's effectiveness by enabling air to circulate from the interior of the property to the exterior through the vent. However, depending on the specific situation, your contractor might have had reasons for leaving the felt intact. It's best to discuss this with your contractor to understand their reasoning. For more information about the installation of tile vents, you may find it helpful to refer to the Ubbink Vent Range Brochure, which you can find here.
