Roofing Gas Torches & Gas Torch Kits
A gas torch, commonly known as a blow torch, is a tool that burns gas or fuel to produce a controlled flame. This flame can be used for things like soldering, welding, and even weed and paint removal. One of the most common uses for gas torches in roofing is applying torch-on membranes made of bitumen or roofing felt. These must be heat-applied to provide your roof with a protective waterproof layer.
We also stock gas torch kits, which include a gas torch, a hose, and a regulator. These components are essential in completing your torch-on project. The hose allows the gas to be carried safely from the cylinder to the torch and means you do not have to constantly carry the heavy cylinder around with you, whilst the regulator provides the torch with a consistent flame without too much gas flowing to the torch, which could be very dangerous. Gas torches are also available in two different fuel types: butane and propane, and each has its own benefits.
Propane Gas Torches
A propane gas torch generally has a high-pressure tank, and can be used in temperatures below freezing, in some cases up to -40 degrees Celsius. These torches normally have the hose and regulator attached, as they are larger than butane gas torches and are mostly used for larger projects such as roofing and weed burning. Their flame temperature can get as hot as nearly 2,000 degrees Celcius. Self-igniting gas torches are often praised for their safety and ease-of-use and are often made for use with propane.
Butane Gas Torches
A butane gas torch has a lower pressure tank than propane, and cannot be used in temperatures below freezing. Its flame temperature generally does not exceed 1,500 degrees Celsius. Butane torches are compact and easy to carry, making them perfect for smaller-scale projects including DIY and light soldering.
